UV
This video clip was taken at site 24. Shows transition from a a UV treated area to a section controlled by a mechanical harvester.

On August 14th, 2024. IRI was invited to view the rake pulling method. Conducting macrophyte sampling was an important part of this project. Each week teams would select sites and take up to 30 samples from various locations in a waterfront community. On this visit we sample sites 2, 14 and site 24. The results were published on a online portal called "shinyapps" and site locations and photos were shared with the group. This video clip shows and example of a typical sampling day in a UV treated area. The end of the clip is a non-UV treated location.

The video clip is of Site 13 before UV treatment. The video clip presented is primarily of Coontail.  The pre treatment video was taken on 6/10/23 illustrates healthy and thriving plants with dense plant growth before UV treatment.  That same area was treated after the image was taken, 8 days later approximately 6/18/23, plants collapsed, and decomposition started.  Additional images are available upon request.

The video between time 0:14 and 0:20 depicts Site 26 at the mid channel spot treatment area and shows a clear drop of vegetation levels.  The video between time 1:13- 1:40 depicts Site 23 entering a treated UV site also showing a drop of vegetation compared to the untreated areas that the vessel passes through.  The video between time 1:58 shows the vessel entering a nearshore area within Site 24 that was UV treated with most of the vegetation greatly reduced, but there are still some small spots.  Entering a harvest site (Site 24) at time lapse 2:15, at the harvested site you can see a height difference in the plants, plants are still present density wise, just height wise they are shorter.  At video lapse time of approximately 2:28 the vessel is entering Site 22 a treated UV area and the video depicts the difference between vegetation in the area near Site 22 having large plants before entering site 22 and after leaving site 22 at approximately 3:20.

This video clip shows the difference between the “control site” which was harvested throughout the summer and Site 24 that split in half. The first section was harvested and the second part was treated with UV light. Due to low water the the focus on on the mid channel.

This video clip shows the the effects of UV light 29 days after the first treatment The clips starts off in the middle of the UV treated section and then we enter the harvested section. Without UV treatment the entire channel would be as dense as the harvested section.

This video clip shows the the effects of UV light 42 days after the first treatment The clips starts off in the middle of the UV treated section and then we enter the harvested section. Without UV treatment entire channel would be as dense as the harvested section.

This video clip shows the the effects of UV light 20 days after the first treatment. For this test we only treated the mid channel and not under boat slips. You can see the difference between the treated and untreated plants.

This video clip shows the the effects of UV light after the second treatment.  The channel was treated two times during the summer.  Diver assisted suction was performed outside the channel in the open water.  You can see the transitions line midpoint of the rock walls.
